Anti-glare blinds
METHODS OF OPERATION

SPRING - Operating Cord
A spring is mounted in the aluminium cassette (head) of the blind. This is a popular choice especially for windows that are difficult to reach. The cord also offers some stability at sea, particularly for smaller window blinds (typically less than 1 metre width).

SPRING - Handle
Like the Operating cord option, a spring is mounted in the cassette. Handles are a convenient option when the top and bottom of the window can be accessed easily. Depending on the width of the bottom rail, there are one or two handles mounted to the bottom rail for ease of operation.

CHAIN
A common and popular choice that is neat and easy to operate. The chain can be mounted on the left or right side of the cassette. This is ideal for blinds on the port and starb’d side where the chain should always be in the forward position.

MOTOR - AC/DC
Motorised blinds are a convenient selection, partcilularly where there are many windows in the bridge. Blinds can programmed to activate all at once or can be grouped for example; forward, aft, port and starboard blinds. Motors are available as a 12V lithium rechargeable, 12V hard wire or 240V AC mains supply. Each blind can be programmed to stop at a pre-determined height and to stop short of the cassette.
STABILITY AT SEA (OPTIONAL)

WIRE GUIDES
Wire guides offer a solution on all blinds, including those that are not square or rectangular. The wire runs through the bottom bar and is fixed at 90 degrees to the cassette. A wire guide base is fixed below the blind which ensures that the blind runs parallel to the glass, regardless of the incline of the window.

RETAINING HOOKS
A pair (or more) of nylon hooks are supplied for mounting at the base of the window. The bottom rail is fitted with male pegs that fit nicely into the hooks. To release from the hook, simply pull the blinds down a little and over the hooks. Hooks work best with handles and together create a very secure and compact solution.

SIDE RAILS
Side rails are an option for square or rectangular windows only. We offer a simple nylon channel without brushes if requried only for stability at sea. Alternatively, side rails can be supplied with brushes to reduce light emissions. This is more typical with blackout blinds.
- Side rails are only suitable for REC shaped blinds (square or rectangular)
- Operating cord is not suitable for public areas. The cord presents a choking hazard to children.
- Constant tension spring with handle is not suitable with wire guide or side rails
- Self locking spring with handle is suitable with wire guide and side rails
Anti-glare FILM: Enhanced Visibility and Safety:
Enhanced Visibility and Safety:
- Reduced Glare (87-94%): Creates a comfortable and safe working environment for crew, operators, and personnel by minimising glare from direct sunlight or reflections. This improves visibility of critical instruments, monitors, and surroundings, enabling precise operation of vessels and machinery.
Comprehensive UV Protection:
- Blocks 99% UV Rays: Safeguards skin and eyes from harmful UV radiation, a significant health concern for those exposed to prolonged sunlight. This helps prevent the risk of skin cancer and long-term eye damage, fulfilling employer responsibility for employee safety.
- Protects Interior Furnishings: Prevents premature fading of furniture and fabrics, reducing the need for frequent interior refurbishment, ultimately justifying the cost of installation.
Improved Comfort and Sustainability:
- Temperature Control: Reduces heat gain, creating a more comfortable work environment and minimising air conditioning usage. This translates to cost savings, environmental benefits, and a smaller carbon footprint.
Enhanced Security and Privacy:
-
- One-Way Visibility: Silver and gold metallic films offer excellent one-way visibility, ideal for security cabins, checkpoints, or private spaces. The blinds can be easily rolled up when two-way visibility or enhanced security is not required.
Navigate with Clarity and Comfort: Maritime-Grade Roller Blinds
Combat Glare, Protect Your Crew, and Enhance Vessel Ambiance:
On the open seas, harsh sunlight poses a significant challenge. Glare from the sun can obstruct essential navigational views, hinder crew visibility, and create an uncomfortable environment on the bridge, cabins, and other onboard spaces. Our bridge sunscreen blinds, yacht sunshade blinds, and boat window blinds are specifically designed for the maritime environment, effectively combating glare and ensuring optimal visibility for safe and efficient navigation.
Uncompromised Safety and Crew Wellbeing:
Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can harm crew members’ eyes and increase the risk of skin cancer, even through windows. Our custom maritime blinds and bespoke made maritime blinds are crafted with UV-protective fabrics, safeguarding your crew’s health and well-being during extended voyages. This minimal investment not only protects your personnel but also demonstrates your commitment to their safety and well-being.
Protect Your Vessel’s Interior:
Beyond crew protection, fabric marine sunscreens significantly reduce UV exposure within your vessel, preventing fading and damage to delicate fabrics, furnishings, and upholstery. This translates to significant cost savings in the long run by minimising the need for frequent redecoration or furniture replacement.
Maintaining Optimal Vessel Temperature:
Our maritime navigation blinds and bridge sunscreen roller blinds excel at regulating interior temperature, significantly reducing the demand for air conditioning. This translates to lower operating costs, a smaller carbon footprint, and a more comfortable environment for your crew and passengers. Modern vessels often feature expansive windows for panoramic views, which can become uncomfortably hot under direct sunlight. Unlike closing drapes, our perforated blinds allow you to maintain comfortable temperatures while still enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Additionally, unlike permanent window films, these blinds can be retracted at night to prevent a mirrored effect, ensuring optimal visibility during low-light conditions.
Enhanced Privacy and Security:
Fabric marine sunscreens offer essential privacy in areas where visibility from outside the vessel is a concern, such as crew quarters, cabins, and passenger lounges. They allow those onboard to maintain outward visibility while enjoying natural light and daytime privacy. Unlike alternatives like drapes or blackout blinds, these blinds enable clear outward visibility, and unlike permanent anti-glare films, they can be adjusted as needed, offering greater flexibility and control.
Invest in our custom-made maritime blinds and experience the difference. Navigate with confidence, ensure crew comfort, and protect your vessel from the harsh marine environment.

ABS Approved. What does this mean?
More Info
In the marine industry, we are accustomed to dealing with type approval societies and their requriements. We also appreciate that a class society certificate is a statement of quality. Whilst there are many societies, under IACS it is acceptable to carry one certificate. For that reason, we selected ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), as one of the best known and prominent class societies.

Sola-Cure can import an existing wheelhose or bridge design, and place our blinds at the windows before sending the model back. We can also provide stp files of our blinds for import into a model. This allows you to consider POV from the helm / Captains chair, and other considerations that may be important at the design stage.
