OPERATION TYPES

There are 4 options when deciding how to operate Sola-Cure boat blinds

Sola-Cure offers several options in how to operate your blinds. Selection may depend on factors like access to the window, the number of blinds or simply aesthetics.

Operating Cord – This is our traditional option. An operating cord is fed through the bottom rail. The head of the blind (cassette) has a spring inside which works together with the cord. The cord is anchored at one end below the blind. The cord is then pulled from the other end to operate the blind. The supply for a Sola-Cure blind using operating cord includes anchor point, pulley square, pulley clamp and cleat.

Note: Operating cords are not suitable for blinds that are fitted in public areas on a passenger vessel.

Chain – Most users will be familiar with the chain option. It is very common in domestic blinds. A ball chain is fitted into the head (cassette) of the blind. As the chain is a loop, the blind is operated by pulling one side of the loop to draw the blind down and the other to pull the blind up.

Handle – This is a neat and tidy option where we fit a handle or two to the bottom rail. Using a handle does require that the user can reach the top and bottom of the window. As with the cord option, the handle works together with a spring installed in the head of the blind.

Motorised blinds offer the most convenient method of blind operation. At Sola-Cure, we offer a 12V rechargeable motor and a hard wired 220V motor. Both motor types are mounted inside the cassette. Blinds are operated by remote control with multi-channel features. This allows for blinds to be operated individually or for greater convenience, blinds can be grouped as forward, port, starboard and aft.

12V Motor – Lithium rechargeable battery.

Our 12V option blinds are ideal for retrofitting on existing vessels. One initial charge will typically last 12 months before re-charging is required. We also offer an option of solar panels that trickle charge and eliminate re-charging requirements.

Overriding the motor is possible. The cassette has a slot on the end which allows the user to manually roll the blind up if required.

220V Motor – Hard wired

Our hard wired option is perfect for newbuildings. If required our AC hard wired blinds are compliant with  2014/30/EU concerning electromagnetic compatibility. Standard cable length is 2 metres and wiring information is available to the yard.
